I am looking at this line of code in the node.tpl.php file in Drupal 7:

Could anyone explain the "../.." part? I'm assuming it's some sort of inclusion (the file is named node.tpl.php), but the docs don't help.

If you were using.tpl.php files in Drupal 6, this is the code to start that would have been used (if a file called node.tpl.php existed in your theme folder):

This way the theme engine checks if the current template name is either a hook name or node, and if it is, it creates a module to check if it has that hook, and if so, it adds the module in the theme system.
The../ part comes from the fact that Drupal 7 uses more semantic naming for the files and directories, since they should be "flat" for any hooks or modules.
So the node.tpl.php file should be in /theme/my_theme/node.tpl.php.
I think the problem with Drupal 7 and the multiple files is that if there was a.php file that was named node.tpl.php, Drupal would be unable to know if it should
